Beginning in 2010, the Hall of Champions concept honours great contributors to the WAAFL, both on and off the playing field, as well as those who began their careers at an amateur level before going on to contribute at higher tiers.
The Hall of Champions system allows everybody involved in amateur football to be part of the process: to nominate their champions, their executives, their high achievers for recognition. Past greats of the WAAFL such as Laurie Tetley, George Meires, Billy Orr and Herbert Grosvenor are forever remembered for their contribution to the game of Australian Football with induction as Champions of the WAAFL.
The Hall of Champions also honours those who began their career in the WAAFL before going on to contribute at a higher level, such as Gary Buckenara, Peter Featherby, Simon Beasley and Gavin Statham. Now household names across the football community, these icons of our game began their careers at amateur level and are recognised in the Hall of Champions as High Achievers.![]()
The Hall of Champions presentation night continues to grow as football lovers of all ages gather to pay tribute to past legends of the game. High Achievers share stories from their humble beginnings and, WAAFL Champions and their families tell of the importance of amateur football in their life.
With 90 years of history, 90 years of champions, the WAAFL Hall of Champions will continue to be one of Australian amateur footballs premier nights.
