ABC Radio have taken out the 2016 WAAFL Media Award at the WA Football Media Guild Awards Night held at Domain Stadium on Tuesday Night.
The WA Amateur Football League media award is presented each year to the person/ team who has provided positive exposure to the league.
This year the ABC Grandstand Team led by Clint Wheeldon, Brett Sprigg and Peter Spencer provided invaluable coverage of the 2016 WAAFL A Grade Grand Final between Trinity Aquinas and Scarborough.
The ABC team described the action play by play for a wide audience as well as informed the listeners of some of the entertaining background stories involving the players. They also interviewed the two coaches, WAAFL General Manager David Armstrong, as well as roaming the boundary line speaking to fans, parents, friends and known personalities in the crowd.
The broadcast on 720 ABC Radio allowed people both interstate and overseas to tune into the match, giving listeners positive exposure to amateur football.
The feedback for the broadcast was overwhelmingly positive not only in the metropolitan area but also in rural Western Australia.
The WAAFL congratulates the ABC Grandstand Team for their coverage of the A Grade Grand Final with special mention to Clint Wheeldon for his persistence in making sure this was a priority for his team.
